Weightlifting events are great events to organise except for one thing - you need a truck and lost of people to shift tonnes of bars and disks! For that reason, state and national titles are often organised in venues that are weightlifting clubs. For international events, however, there is little choice but to move large quantities of weights. Imagine a world championship where the training/warm-up hall might have 10-20 platforms and each platform has 200 kgs of weights!

Maybe you can just make out the athlete on stage in this magnificent venue "Izmailovo Sports Palace" in Moscow, the venue for the 1980 Olymoic Games Weightlifting Tournament. Notice the large contingent of international press, commentators and broadcasteras, siting in the foreground in front of computer TV monitors.

Here is "Misha" the bear, the Mascot of the 1980 Summer Olympics. Symbolism is extremely important in running major events. Who could forget how the Misha was created in the crowd in the closing ceremony of the Olympics, and then a tear drop fell from her eye.
